Small Wonders at the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture

Santa Fe, NM - The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture (MIAC) is offering art lovers the unique opportunity to view and purchase smaller works by more than 50 celebrated Native American artists with its first ever "Small Wonders" art show and sale. Featuring such artists as potters Rebecca Lucario and Robert Tenorio, jewelers Gail Bird & Yazzie Johnson, beadworker Marcus Amerman, and painter Mateo Romero, the event is Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 28 from 9am to 4pm. A portion of the proceeds from show sales will be generously donated by the artists to the museum.

"The idea for this show is to bring together the best of Native American artists-from emerging artists to masters-across many different art forms and showcase their smaller works so that they are a bit more affordable," said Duane Anderson, Director of MIAC. "We're excited that we will have student artists joining us from several of the schools together with some of the most recognized names in the Indian art world. In addition, the artists have agreed to share a portion of the proceeds with the museum, so it really benefits everyone."

The art show will take place on Milner Plaza at Museum Hill on Camino Lejo (off Old Santa Fe Trail). Early bird tickets (for admission from 9-10 am) will be available at the door for $10. After 10 am, a suggested donation of $5 is requested.

In addition to the show on Saturday, the museum is hosting a benefit on Friday evening, May 27th, from 6-8 pm at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. A "Small Tastings" menu of wines and tapas will be served and patrons will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with the artists, as well as to purchase pieces specially chosen by the artists for this wonderful evening.

"We've asked the artists to pick what they think is their most spectacular piece for the Friday night pre-sale," said Anderson. "For people who are really interested in finding a special piece, the Friday night reception will be their chance. In addition, we will have pieces by a few artists who can't join us for the Saturday show, including Tammy Garcia, Lonnie Vigil, and Victoria Adams, so we are thrilled about that."

Tickets for the benefit reception on Friday will be $65 per person (which includes an Early Bird ticket for the Saturday show as well) and may be purchased by calling Monica Vigil at 505-476-1258.
